Welcome on the website of Lumezi Hospital Foundation.

The government in Zambia is not able to deliver educated staff, till equiped houses are available. We are trying to realize 3 new staff houses of € 25.000,- each.

Two of the staff houses are realized already.Hhowever, the hosptial needs more houses to give the doctors and employees a place to live and work. Without these facilities a lot of local people will be excluded from healthcare.

Lumezi-Hospital

LOCATION
Located in the Eastern Province in Zambia, on the road connecting Chipata to Lundazi. This Missionary Hospital, run by Sister-in-charge Hermenegilda Mbaga (from Mozambique), receive about 500 patients a day in the ambulatory.

Lumezi Zonal Health Centre is currently operating as a level one hospital. The process of upgrading the centre to a first level referral hospital has already started, but official requests sent to the Ministry of Health in Lusaka have not yet been approved. Recognition of Lumezi Zonal Health Centre as a level one hospital will allow us to receive the medication, funding and staffing appropriate to our level of work and enable us to continue providing quality health care services to Lumezi community and the nearest centres. Equipment in theatre and x-ray are out-dated and inadequate for the centre operating at its current level. Staffing levels are very low for Lumezi to provide quality health services. We need assitional housing to enable staff to come to Lumezi. None of our CDEs are on the government payroll, unlike in other mission health centres.

HOSPITAL MISSION
To take health care services to the community as close as possible to the family
VISION STATEMENT To reduce the occurrence rate of preventable illnesses from the community
GOAL To contribute to the improvement of quality and accessible health care, curative, preventive, rehabilitative, mitigative, spiritually, and psychologically to Lumezi Catchment Area.
